Studi Penambahan Abu Limbah Teh Sebagai Bahan Campur Terhadap Daya Dukung Tanah Lempung
Abstract
Clay is a cohesive soil, this type of soil often causes problems and damage to a structure, the occurrence of waves on the road surface and the average occurs on the road. Soil improvement efforts can be carried out in two ways, namely mechanical or chemical methods.
To fix the problems that exist in the clay soil, a study was carried out using tea waste ash as a stability material. clay samples were taken at Simpang Haru while the material for stability used a mixture of factory tea waste ash with percentages of 0% 4%, 8% and 12%. The tests carried out consisted of testing the physical properties and mechanical properties of the soil both on the original soil and the soil that has been treated, mixed with tea waste ash. The physical properties test consisted of specific gravity test, atterberg limit, sieve analysis test and hydrometer, while the mechanical property test included compaction test, CBR test (soaked and unsoaked) and free compression test. The CBR test and free compression test were carried out at maximum solid conditions with a curing period of 4 days.
The results show that tea waste ash can improve some physical and mechanical properties of the soil. From the physical properties, it can be seen that the plastic limit value increases and the soil plasticity index value decreases. From the mechanical properties test there was an increase in the value of soil density, CBR (soaked and unsoaked) and the value of the free compressive strength of the soil, but it was not significant. The best value was achieved at the content of 4% tea waste ash in the soil mixture.
